Benefit Planned for Teens Struck by Lightning in Southern Utah

On Tuesday October 5th, Snow Canyon High School students Dane Zdunich and Alex Lambson were struck by lightning at the end of the school day. Both boys stopped breathing. Because of the fast actions of students, school employees, medical response teams and physicians, both boys were stabilized at Dixie Regional Medical Center and then life-flighted to the Burn Center in Las Vegas. This benefit concert will raise funds to help pay for medical expenses for Dane and Alex and their long recovery.
Students from Snow Canyon, Dixie, Pine View, Desert Hills and Tuacahn High Schools will be performing, along with students from Dixie College. The evening will also include professional entertainers, including some from Tuacahn's summer productions.

Last night an announcement was made to the audience at TARZAN, that donations were being taken and all donations would be given directly to the families. Donations were collected in boxes after the show. They raised a total of $1,138.50. A check will be issued in the amount of $569.25 for both families.
If you would like to make a donation to help these families, please check with local Zion's Banks as we have heard there is a fund set up there.

TUACAHN AMPHITHEATRE TO PRESENT U.S. REGIONAL PREMIERE OF DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID ALONG WITH GREASE IN 2011

(Ivins, UT) The majestic red rock cliffs of Southern Utah will be magically transformed into an underwater fantasy of epic proportions as Tuacahn Center for the Arts presents the regional premiere of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, beginning next summer. Tuacahn will also present the acclaimed musical Grease which will run in repertory with The Little Mermaid from the first of June to mid October, 2011.

This announcement comes as Tuacahn is in the middle of its most successful season featuring Disney’s Tarzan, CATS and the Gershwin musical comedy Crazy for You. Tarzan, based on the Disney film, is breaking all box office records, even surpassing Tuacahn’s 2008 production of Les Miserables. “The success of Disney’s Tarzan has contributed to receiving the rights to produce Disney’s The Little Mermaid,” says Scott Anderson, Tuacahn’s Artistic Director.

In its production of Disney’s Tarzan, Tuacahn has ten fly lines that carry actors over the audience, across the stage, and 867 feet above the canyon floor. The production also makes use of the venue’s famous waterworks. “The unique ability we have to move more than 18,000 gallons of water per minute creates the flood scene that sets the stage for the beginning of Tarzan,” says Kevin Warnick, Tuacahn’s Managing Director. Tuacahn plans to enhance and add to its waterworks effects for The Little Mermaid.
In preparing for Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Tuacahn has assembled a creative team who are developing several unique production elements that will take full advantage of Tuacahn’s outdoor environment. “Audiences coming to see The Little Mermaid will see the stage and surrounding area shift between underwater and land scenes through a combination of exciting special effects,” Mr. Anderson said.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid will perform each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from June 3 through October 14, 2011 and Grease will perform every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from June 9 through October 15, 2011. Ticket prices for adults will range from $29 to $59 and for children from $23 to $49.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen. Book by Doug Wright. Music by Alan Menken. Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater. Tuacahn’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid will be directed by Scott S. Anderson, and is presented at Tuacahn through special arrangements with Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Productions.

Tuacahn opened in 1995 and has been entertaining audiences with professional, Broadway-caliber theatrical productions each year. The amphitheatre, which has 1,920 seats, is also used for Tuacahn’s annual spring and fall concerts. This year more than 160,000 guests will visit Tuacahn as new attendance records have been established with its productions of Disney’s Tarzan, Cats, and Crazy for You, the Gershwin musical comedy. Tuacahn is located in Ivins, Utah, near St. George in the southwest corner of the state. Tuacahn is approximately 120 miles north of Las Vegas near Interstate 15.

Tuacahn Amphitheatre is a major contributor to the Southern Utah economy as nearly 60% of Tuacahn’s guests visit from outside the region. These guests stay in hotels, dine in restaurants, shop at local businesses, sightsee and participate in many of the additional tourism activities the area has to offer. “With our record-breaking attendance this season, we anticipate that guests visiting Tuacahn this year will contribute more than $40 million to the area economy,” Kevin Smith, Tuacahn’s CEO said. “The impact to the area’s economy could reach more than $50 million next year as we expect even more guests with great shows like Grease and Disney’s Little Mermaid,” Smith added.

This fall Disney’s Tarzan continues each Monday, Wednesday and Friday through October 15, while Crazy for You performs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through October 16, 2010.
Tickets for Tuacahn’s 2010 and 2011 seasons are on sale now and may be purchased online at www.tuacahn.org or via telephone at 435-652-3300 or toll free 866-321-8051.

Tony Winner Lisa H. Seegmiller as Grizabella in CATS at Tuacahn

Lisa H. Seegmiller as Grizabella in CATS

"Tuachan’s ‘Cats’ revival delivers knock-out ‘Memory’"

"Seegmiller, a Tony Award winner for her portrayal of Mimi “La Boheme,” creates a moment that’s beautifully painful in its entirety, turning Grizabella’s story into a universal moment of nostalgia and melancholy with a glimmer of hope. Her voice seems to penetrate each word of the familiar lyrics, extracting the core meaning of her plea. Seegmiller is among several reasons to make the drive to the Ivins Amphitheater..." - The Salt Lake Tribune

Disney's Tarzan at Tuacahn Amphitheatre 2010

POST-BROADWAY REGIONAL PREMIERE!
The jungle will come to life in the desert when Tuacahn Amphitheatre in Ivins, Utah presents the regional premiere of Tarzan-the Broadway musical based on the popular 1999 Disney film and beloved story by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

This classic tale begins when an early 1900 shipwreck leaves an infant orphaned on the West African shore. The helpless baby is taken under the protection of a gorilla named Kala, and becomes part of their family. When he eventually encounters his first human--Jane Porter, a curious young explorer--both of their worlds transform forever.

Tarzan features the songs from Disney's film as well as nine new songs written specifically for the Broadway production. The show's Grammy Award-winning musical score, written by singer/songwriter Phil Collins, propels the energy and imagination of this literary favorite, making this a "must see" at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre in 2010.

Tarzan swings into Tuacahn June 7th through October 15th. Don't miss it!

Tuacahn's Broadway in the Desert Summer Season Presents CATS

CATS
"...a musical that transports the audience into a complete fantasy world that could only exist in the theater and yet, these days, only rarely does."

-The New York Times
"With a solid cast of gifted singers and gracefully agile dancers, this outdoor production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' is well worth the drive to the southwestern corner of Utah." -Deseret News (from the review of Tuacahn's 2006 production of Cats)

WINNER OF SEVEN 1983 TONY AWARDS INCLUDING BEST MUSICAL!
Back by popular demand, Andrew Lloyd Webber's astoundingly successful musical comes to life once again on the outdoor amphitheatre stage in an event for the entire family.

A junkyard marks the setting for the annual reunion of the Jellicle cats at the Jellicle Ball as the eldest of their special breed of cats, Old Deuteronomy, seeks to select which of the many cats in the neighborhood will be reborn to begin another life. Each of the potential cats, such as Jennyanydots, Rum Tum Tugger, and Bustopher Jones pleads his or her case to Old Deuteronomy. Ultimately, it is Grizabella's plea for a new life that wins the old cat over. This moment marks one of the show's highlights when Grizabella sings "Memory," one of the most popular and most-recorded songs in the world, to express her determination.
